How to Install Your U Bolt Flip Kit: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Gen Tacoma
Step 1. Lift Truck Using Jack Stands
Lift the rear of the truck with floor jack and place 2 jack stands under the rear axle tube. Lower the truck so the weight is fully resting on the jack stands.
Step 2. Remove OEM U Bolts & Mounting Plate
Working on one side at a time, remove your OEM square shaped U bolts and mounting plate. Install your new DuroBump Flip Plate on top of the leaf pack. It may be necessary to cut down the leaf pack center detent pin flush with the top of the nut to achieve proper clearance for your DuroBumps.
Step 3. Install New U Bolt
Install the new U bolt with the threaded end facing up toward the bed of the truck. Use the provided washer and tall nut to fasten the U bolts to the flip plate. Tighten nuts until snug.
Step 4. Repeat & Torque U Bolt Nuts
Repeat steps 2-3 on the other side. Now, it’s time to evenly torque the U bolt nuts to 93ft·lbs.
Step 5. Reinstall Wheels & Tires
Reinstall wheels and tires. Lug nut torque specs at 83ft·lbs or manufacturer’s recommendation.
Please Note: It is very important to recheck the torque of your U bolt nuts after driving 250 miles after the initial install. Again, you want to check your U bolt’s torque to verify they are at 93ft·lbs after 500 miles and again at 1000 miles after the initial install. All U bolts stretch after being installed and require to be re-torqued.
